In this chapter, after summarizing the main results of Riemann’s text and analyzing his reasoning, a detailed mathematical commentary is provided. That commentary presents Riemannian geometry from a modern perspective. It explains the basic geometry concepts, including the concept of a manifold, tensor calculus, coordinate systems, the curvature tensor and sectional curvatures as invariants of a Riemannian metric and submanifolds of Euclidean spaces.
