A historical overview of language learning strategy instruction (LLSI) research and studies is presented in the chapter, followed by a brief overview of LLSI for English as a foreign language in Saudi Arabia. This report does not provide a comprehensive study but a field summary. It identifies significant topics in strategy instruction in teaching English as a foreign language. It discusses the latest developments and reflects on the latest trends in LLSI research in general and strategy intervention studies in Saudi Arabia. The article aims to highlight the problems that researchers need to address to improve the quality of LLSI research in Saudi Arabia and, consequently, to improve the usefulness of English language learning. Research directions are outlined at the end.
