Transformation and Resilience: The Evolution of Seediq Textile Motifs Before and After the Wushe Incident
摘要
Traditional motifs in visual arts can be considered the most distinctive symbols of a nation. The motifs found on Seediq’s artefacts, which are integral to local costumes, play a crucial role in identifying the tangible cultural heritage of this community. These motifs and patterns help distinguish the cultural differences between the Seediq and Atayal peoples. This study aims to analyse the development of motif designs on traditional Seediq costumes following the Wushe (Munsha) incident. By exploring the relationship between motifs and Seediq costumes, this research will employ qualitative methods such as in-depth interviews and observation notes to gather data on these patterns. Interviews with pattern makers, artists, tradition bearers, and community members will provide insights into their perceptions, production techniques, meanings, and uses of the Seediq patterns. The goal is to clarify the characteristics of the two Gaoshan ethnic groups, to identify elements of ethnic costumes from multiple perspectives, and develop a theoretical model of visual arts motifs to guide future ethnic costume design.
