This research focuses on analyzing 28 companies in the tourism sector in San Gerardo de Dota that have green management with innovations in their sustainable practices. The study region is in Costa Rica, the area is considered by scientists and visitors to be a subregion with high biodiversity and scenic beauties that, together with the VUCA concept: volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity generate in researchers the following question: Does VUCA influence the sustainable practices of the area? The research reflects how the changing contexts of the scenarios together with climate change and economic oscillations disturb communities, hence the need for them to adapt policies on green and environmental management. The community makes efforts in the following sustainable initiatives: organic agriculture, use of environmentally friendly energy, sustainable practices and ecotourism as allies to mitigate the harmful impacts of human growth on the environment. It was necessary to value collaboration between local actors: farmers, governance and other public entities, ecotourism entrepreneurs, NGOs and educational organizations to create operational frameworks for sustainable management in the community. The research considers education as a fundamental axis of environmental awareness and thus promotes a culture of sustainability among residents. Consequently, the research highlights that green management and sustainable innovation in San Gerardo de Dota are not only a declaration to those challenges of the VUCA world, but also represent opportunities to promote balanced, sustainable and practical development, where the essence of the community of San Gerardo de Dota is to respect nature, which is related to the needs of the local community and the well-being of visitors and individuals of the natural ecosystem.
