Strawberry cultivation is very important and highly developed in the Loukkos area. It is classified among the main crops of the Regional Agricultural plan of Morocco. 85% of the country’s strawberries are produced in the main irrigated areas of Gharb and Loukkos, their cultivation generates more than 2.5 million days of work each year. In reality, most cultivars are imported at exorbitant prices; the most demanded by the market are susceptible to diseases and pests. The genetic improvement of strawberries remains an essential tool in order to produce a new variety. In this work, we carried out a study on the varietal selection of strawberries by mutation induction of the Fortuna variety. This was based on irradiation with a dose of gamma rays. Studies shows that the greatest number of varieties of mutants produced have been obtained by physical agents and more particularly gamma Rays. Physical mutagens have the advantage of having a simple application. Several seedlings were irradiated and then planted in the research area of the National Institute of Agronomic Research in Larache (CRRA-INRA). The impact of irradiation was evaluated based on several qualitative and quantitative characteristics for all of the irradiated and not irradiated (controls) seedlings, a set of twenty-two parameters was studied, including plant habit, leaf density, leaf blistering, number of leaves, color of the upper surface of the leaves and vigor of plant, leaf size and chlorophyll, the position of the inflorescence to the foliage, the diameter of the flower, the size of the calyx in relation to the corolla, the presence and absence of stamens in addition to other parameters. In this work, we present six of the morphological vegetative plant part parameters.
