The Role of Technology in Preserving and Promoting Artisanal Cultural Heritage: The Moroccan Caftan Case

Preserving and promoting cultural heritage in an increasingly globalized world requires the exploration of innovative approaches. This article examines the impact of new technologies on safeguarding the Moroccan caftan, a garment deeply rooted in Morocco's cultural identity. Thanks to digital archiving, photogrammetry, 3D scanning and virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR), the intricate details and craftsmanship of the Moroccan caftan are meticulously documented and preserved. These technologies not only ensure the longevity of traditional techniques, but also enhance global accessibility and recognition. By creating interactive and immersive experiences, these digital tools engage a wider audience, fostering appreciation of Moroccan heritage. What's more, they protect against undue cultural appropriation by providing tangible proof of the Moroccan Caftan's origin and authenticity. This paper highlights the essential role of technology in preserving and revitalizing the cultural heritage of the Moroccan caftan, ensuring its transmission to future generations while preserving its integrity and authenticity.
