Regarding the increasing human interest in exploring and exploiting the underwater environment, unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV) have been a suitable tool to perform operations for more efficient and time-saving. The objective of this overview is to give a summary of recent classifications of UUV’s technology with a comparative evaluation of its features. Moreover, the focus of this paper is put on intelligence algorithms which are oriented towards controlling the motion of UUVs. The principles of various methods are outlined, the advantages and disadvantages of relevant algorithms are discussed. Finally, future research prospects of intelligence motion control are presented.
