In recent years, supply chains have faced multiple disruptions, as the Covid-19 pandemic acted like a seismic shock to supply chains worldwide, exposing fragilities in an interconnected global network. Simultaneously, the escalation of geopolitical tensions and conflicts adds further complexities to the scenario, disrupting established trade routes and increasing supply chain risks. Alongside these challenges, the dangers of climate change are exacerbating existing vulnerabilities and introducing new uncertainties and threats to both continuity and sustainability. Therefore, the interconnection between sustainability and resilience has gained significant academic attention, reflecting the need for businesses to address the operational robustness of the supply chain in the face of disruptions while remaining sustainable on three dimensions: environmental, social, and economic. This review is a comprehensive summary of numerous literature reviews and analyses on resilience and sustainability in supply chain management (SCM). We synthesized 31 existing literature reviews from the Scopus database to shed light on the relationship between resilience and sustainability in SCM. The first part of the review is a quantitative analysis using R-package tools showing the scientific production in recent years, the most relevant sources, the most cited documents, and the most frequent words used in the reviews. In the second qualitative part, we summarize the findings of the 24 reviews of the 31 reviews, those where the full text is available. We focus on synergies and tensions between the two constructs, emphasize the complex trade-offs between resilience and sustainability and also recommend the imperative of adopting integrated approaches that balance short-term responsiveness with long-term viability in SCM. Finally, this review identifies the future trends for research topics with emerging research directions and managerial implications to guide future inquiries and practices in the field of resilient and sustainable SCM.
