Biometals and Transformation of Metals and Metalloids
摘要
This chapter discusses the hard and soft metals and their roles in bacterial physiology. Bacterial metabolism in mineral cycles is discussed by focusing on metabolism of iron, manganese, and selenium. The specificity of metal uptake and the problems of metal mimicry are included. The various mechanisms of metal detoxification by bacteria are discussed. Unique metabolic systems for mercury, chromium, silver, uranium, arsenic, and cadmium are presented.
