Dialogue Develops Reflexivity
摘要
Dialogical change is verified by an increase in a person’s self-reflexivity. Reflection allows the person to consider the different meanings of difficult issues and relate them to events in his or her own life. The outcome of dialogical therapy is often manifested in an increase in such reflection, both in the therapy session and in daily life. The therapeutic processes that lead to reflection can be explored by examining the dialogic nature of conversation, including in particular how therapists respond to clients’ expressions. The focus of the study is not on classifying clients according to their dialogical abilities, but on the progression of a shared process. There are several real options for a dialogic encounter. It is also possible to identify weak dialogic encounters and thus find moments to improve therapeutic dialogue. One of the most important elements of dialogical skills is to respond to clients’ incipient reflections on their own actions or experiences in the moment and to be present when clients say an important word or other expression.
