Photius and the Armenians: Against the Heresy of the Theopaschites
摘要
The chapter deals with the attempts made by the Byzantine government at bringing the Monophysite Armenians to Orthodoxy, evident from the extensive correspondence between the Patriarch Photius and Nicetas of Byzantium, on behalf of the Byzantine emperor, on the one side, and the Armenian political and church leaders—Prince Ashot Bagratuni and Catholicos Zachariah, on the other, which is dated to the period of the first pontificate of Photius, more precisely to 862–867 and connected to the Council of Širakavan of 862.
