Advocacy for the Exstrophy Community: Empowering and Encouraging the Patient and Family
摘要
The bladder exstrophy-epispadias complex (BEEC) is a rare disease that has lifelong medical and psychosocial implications. Affected individuals often face challenges in accessing suitable medical care and maintaining basic human rights. The psychosocial challenges associated with these diseases pose major obstacles to achieving adequate quality of life. Advocacy for the BEEC community must prioritize enhancing health literacy, encouragement, and empowerment to ensure individuals with BEEC can reach their full potential. Advocacy efforts must address global inequities and facilitate access to care for the most vulnerable in this population. It is imperative that the various stakeholders, including specialized physicians and providers, allied healthcare professionals, advocates and allies, parents and caregivers, and affected persons, collaborate on behalf of these rare and challenging health conditions. THE ASSOCIATION FOR THE BLADDER EXSTROPHY COMMUNITY (A-BE-C) partners with medical institutions, medical collaborative workshops, and non-government advocacy organizations to promote and facilitate psychosocial interventions and improve access to care. Advocacy contributions to policy and legislation to protect the rights, safety, and social justice challenges of those with BEEC are essential. This multifaceted advocacy approach respects the integrity of each person with BEEC while attempting to create a pathway for improved healthcare and overall well-being for the global BEEC community.
