Overview of Cyber Threats in Space Communication as Part of Space-Area-Ground-Sea Integrated Networks

This work focuses on the satellite component of the Space-Air-Ground-Sea Integrated Network (SAGSIN) architecture, which is a comprehensive concept designed to achieve global connectivity by integrating various types of networks. The study presents cybersecurity threats to all components of the space part of SAGSIN, including satellites, ground stations, and end users. These threats are categorized into three main types: technical vulnerabilities, socio-technical attacks, and organizational weaknesses. The need for implementing appropriate security practices, ongoing employee training, and mindful system design is emphasized. As services such as Ground Station as a Service (GSaaS) become more popular, traditional approaches to satellite system security must be revised. This study aims to provide a holistic overview of the current security landscape of satellite systems and propose strategies for enhancing their resilience to emerging threats.
