Harmonizing with Nature for Sustainable Business
摘要
In the Anthropocene era, marked by climate crises, biodiversity loss, and growing social inequalities, this work explores how businesses can shift from an anthropocentric to an ecocentric approach (De Jong, 2024). It addresses the urgency for organizations to see themselves as integral parts of natural ecosystems, advocating nature-inspired principles for sustainable and socially innovative practices. Using a reflective methodology, the study integrates literature with insights from fieldwork in India, where Hindu philosophies underscored the interconnectedness of human existence and nature. This perspective supports integrating spiritual values into sustainability efforts, proposing that a nature-centered worldview can transform business governance. A suggested governance model incorporates nature as a stakeholder in decision-making, embedding ecological accountability within corporate frameworks. The discussion introduces the Knowledge Model (Nandram, 2022), a practical tool for infusing spirituality and consciousness into business strategy, encouraging organizations to adopt ethical, ecocentric dimensions. Inspired by biomimicry, the work outlines management principles modeled on natural ecosystems, advocating modes of interaction such as “doing,” “being,” and “happening” to foster active connections with nature. In conclusion, adopting ecocentric models, governance frameworks, and management principles enables businesses to contribute to a resilient and inclusive society. This shift is essential for addressing the complexities of the Anthropocene, aligning business operations with environmental stewardship and social well-being, and supporting a sustainable, ethically grounded future.
