Exploring the Intersection of Spirituality and Sustainability in the Anthropocene Era
摘要
As companies face the unique challenges of the Anthropocene era, the integration of spirituality into corporate sustainability practices emerges as a transformative approach. This study offers a comprehensive literature review to examine how spiritual principles can enhance sustainability within corporate settings. The objective is to assess the influence of spirituality on business strategies and practices, employee well-being, and stakeholder relationships. Using a systematic ten-step methodology, we identified and analysed the most relevant scientific literature up to 2023 on both spirituality and sustainability, categorizing the findings into eight thematic clusters: spiritual leadership and ethical practices; spirituality in management education and corporate social responsibility; ethical leadership and organizational values; spirituality and consumer behaviour in healthcare and tourism; spirituality in organizational development and cultural integration; spiritual leadership and workplace spirituality; spiritual capital and community well-being; and spiritual leadership in organizational change and employee well-being. The contributions within each cluster were examined, uncovering key insights and highlighting unresolved questions. Consequently, a research agenda is proposed to guide future studies on the mechanisms through which spirituality promotes sustainable business practices.
