Climate extremes pose major threats, and changing climate, hydrological, and socio-cultural factors present decision-makers with complex challenges for disaster mitigation. The insurance sector, heavily impacted by natural catastrophes (NATCAT), faces rising economic losses alongside new opportunities. NATCAT models—datasets and analytical tools for evaluating risk and economic vulnerability—now require high-resolution simulations to support detailed assessments of natural disasters. In Italy, mandatory NATCAT insurance regulations are prompting the industry to adopt advanced geospatial intelligence for hazard, risk, and exposure data. This work showcases a collaboration among scientific, geospatial, and insurance professionals, resulting in a new NATCAT solution. By integrating the validated GFPLAIN flood model with building-scale data from URBY ET ORBIT in the REBIT solution by GRIDDIT startup, we provide Italy’s first high-resolution models of flood-induced economic losses at the cadastral-building scale. These models contribute to the GEOSAFE service developed by ANIA SAFE for flooding NATCAT assessments of Italian insurance companies.
