The City of Wyndham is located on the western edge of Melbourne, Victoria, in south-eastern Australia between the metropolitan area of Melbourne and the coastal city of Geelong. Wyndham covers an area of 542 km2 and features 27.4 km of coastline bordering Port Phillip Bay to the east. The municipality is situated in one of Australia’s most productive regions, part of the largest area of rich basalt soils on the continent. Wyndham has a diverse richness that covers elements of city, coast and country areas, making it a unique place to live, work, learn and play. Wyndham is adjacent to the municipalities of Greater Geelong, Moorabool, Melton, Brimbank and Hobsons Bay. The Wyndham Learning Community Strategy 2018–2023 (LCS) is a whole-of-community strategy to enhance lifelong learning for the City of Wyndham. The philosophy underpinning the LCS is that no work can be achieved in isolation, and partnerships are key to achieving our goals. The LCS incorporates an action plan with 18 key actions aimed at working to creatively and effectively find solutions to education and learning challenges, both across Wyndham and in learning environments across the globe, in our strong and dynamic partnership work. This case study speaks to the development and journey of the LCS, and then focuses on six key projects within the LCS to demonstrate how we effectively implement initiatives that move us forward as a dynamic and progressive learning city. The case study also includes information on our governance structure and how Wyndham evaluates this work to measure our effectiveness and impact. Since the time of publication, Wyndham City Council has adapted a new Learning Community Strategy 2024-2029, building on the foundations discussed in this chapter.
