The aim of this chapter is to address the main objectives of the great powers (Great Britain, the USA, the Soviet Union, France, Italy, and Japan) at the Lausanne Conference of 1922–1923. It will be argued that the great powers’ interests were largely driven by their respective geopolitical, political, and economic ambitions in the Middle East and the Turkish Straits, while dealing with the Greek-Turkish issues was of secondary importance for them.
