Mangrove-Derived Actinomycetes for the Health Management of Aquaculture Systems
摘要
Aquaculture is one of the fastest-growing sectors in animal farming, driven by the increasing global demand for protein. However, the industry faces significant challenges, including disease outbreaks linked to poor culture practices, water quality issues, and the impacts of climate change. The widespread use of antibiotics has further exacerbated these problems by fostering antimicrobial resistance, the spread of antibiotic-resistant genes, and residues in aquaculture products. In response, there is growing interest in sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Among these, actinomycetes, particularly those derived from mangrove ecosystems, have gained attention for their potential as probiotics. Known for their rich diversity of bioactive compounds and secondary metabolites, actinomycetes offer promising solutions. Recent studies highlight their effectiveness as antimicrobial agents, antibiofilm agents, bioremediators, immune boosters, and growth promoters in aquaculture. This chapter examines how mangrove-derived actinomycetes can enhance the sustainability and health of aquaculture systems, providing a critical review of current research while identifying future opportunities. Ultimately, it explores how these microorganisms could revolutionize aquaculture, fostering more resilient, productive, and sustainable practices.
