Digital Storytelling and Gastronomy
摘要
In this chapter, we examine how digital storytelling is reshaping dining by integrating narrative elements, plot, character, setting, and theme, into the culinary experience or journey. Immersive technologies, among others, enable diners to explore the journey of ingredients or engage with digital characters guiding the story of a meal. From nostalgic flavours paired with ambient sounds to immersive concepts like Náttúra (by Kitchen Theory), Ultraviolet (by chef Paul Pairet), The Alchemist (from Rasmus Munk), and Sensorium (Fedderico Rottigni in Milan), multisensory storytelling helps to enhance the emotional and cultural depth of dining. The chapter reflects on how narrative and technology converge to create more immersive and engaging food experiences that are memorable, meaningful, as well as potentially ethically complex.
