Design and Implement an Interactive IoT Based Tamil Braille Keypad for Visually Impaired School Children
摘要
Learning Braille is crucial for individuals with visual impairments, yet the Tamil Braille system primarily relies on traditional tools like Braille blocks, lacking modern, interactive educational alternatives. This paper presents an innovative system that introduces a tangible, interactive IoT-based Braille keypad integrated with an educational website, designed to assist visually impaired children in learning Tamil Braille letters and numbers. A usability test revealed that this system significantly enhances learning outcomes, enabling children to engage with Braille characters independently and fostering intrinsic motivation for Braille learning. The system’s integration of physical and digital learning environments, supported by an open-source toolkit, offers a versatile and customizable educational solution. This toolkit is intended to facilitate the adoption of the Braille Keypad in various academic settings, making it a valuable resource for educators and researchers in visual impairment education.
