Enhancing Mathematical Modeling Competency in Geometry Learning at Secondary School by Using Virtual Reality Technology
摘要
Mathematics comes from practical needs of life, helping to solve problems posed by practice itself. Mathematical models represent and solve real-life problems by converting mathematics to reality. Geometry originated as a practical science concerned with surveying, measuring, area, and volume, involving methods used to describe the shape of objects both intuitively and abstractly. Virtual reality (VR) technology allows for the simulation of space shapes by combining real and virtual spaces to create geometric models. Virtual reality glasses allow students to research and model spaces using virtual reality applications on smartphones and tablets. This study proposes the use of VR to improve students’ mathematical modeling capacity in teaching geometry in high schools.
