Enhancement of LIBS Signal Under Liquid Using External Electric and Magnetic Fields
摘要
This chapter presents the technique for enhancement of LIBS signals in liquid media using external biases viz. external electric and magnetic fields. For electric field-assisted LIBS, a Nickel target was subjected to a pulsed Nd: YAG laser beam while submerged alternately in Acetone, Ethanol, and Distilled De-ionized Water. This led to generation of plasma which was analyzed using a spectrometer under 0 V/m and 3000 V/m magnitudes of an external electric field. The plasma behavior was also studied for Copper-DDW and Iridium-DDW combinations. It was thus seen that the plasma intensity signal increased when the external field was applied. The same behavior was also observed in case of plasma temperature and electron density. The study was also performed using magnetic field-assisted LIBS and similar results were obtained.
