Effect of the Spatial Variability of Offshore Ground on the Serviceability Limit and Bending Moment Response of the Monopile Foundation

This paper presents the reliability analyses of the monopile foundation behavior considering the non-uniformity of the ground. A series of random finite element analyses have been performed which incorporates the random field theory for mapping the ground non-uniformity to the soil model. The stochastic parameter selected for the random field generation is the site-specific undrained shear strength. Different sets of stochastic parameters have been chosen for the correlation functions, and stochastic analyses have been conducted accordingly. The study highlights the probabilistic evaluation of serviceability limit of the monopile foundation considering the spatial variation of the offshore ground. It also shows the effect of non-uniformity of the ground on the bending moment response of the monopile foundation. It presents the significance for the consideration of the ground non-uniformity to the physical model.
