Mangrove ecosystems play a vital role in addressing these challenges, providing critical services such as coastal protection, fisheries support, and biodiversity conservation. However, the rapid deforestation of mangroves due to human activities, exacerbated by climate change, has led to significant socio-economic impacts, affecting fisheries, tourism, and the natural defense against coastal erosion. This study explores the ecological and socio-economic importance of mangroves, focusing on their role in enhancing community resilience. It highlights successful community-based conservation initiatives in the region, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between local communities, governments, and NGOs. By integrating traditional knowledge with scientific research, the study proposes a framework for sustainable mangrove management. Key policy recommendations are presented, advocating for the inclusion of mangrove protection within broader regional and national development strategies. The study underscores the necessity of bridging people and nature for the long-term sustainability of East Africa's coastal ecosystems, offering valuable insights into fostering resilience through effective mangrove conservation.
