Informal Recycling Sector in the Developing World and Circular Economy: Case of Türkiye

Recycling and waste management are issues addressed together. Recycling has become an important tool in waste management. When developing countries are examined, informal recycling can be seen as a prominent practice. Individual’s performance is effective in waste reduction and evaluation of waste through informal recycling. When considering the challenge of the climate change and global warming, reducing carbon emissions is a vital implication for the policymakers. The quantity of carbon emissions and waste should be reduced in the short term to achieve sustainable development goals. This study aims to explore how informal recycling sector can spur reducing the quantity of carbon and waste in developing countries. As it is purposed, the current and available data, statistics and reports will be reviewed to evaluate the informal recycling sector in Türkiye as a sample of developing country. It is though to give a detailed and brief framework for the informal recycling sector by showing recent indicators and information.
