Tourism is one of the pillars of most African economies. However, tourism activities have ignited environmental concerns in recent years, influencing a swing towards a circular economy development model. One of the understudied issues is how tourism can help in ensuring the sustainability of the African food system. This chapter seeks to close this knowledge gap by highlighting how the tourism sector can contribute to the sustainability of African food systems. The chapter explores how the tourism sector can transition towards sustainable food practices and identifies innovative solutions that exhibit the most potential in decreasing food waste and promoting sustainability within tourism enterprises. The chapter utilises primary and secondary sources available in both academic and grey formats. It shows that interventions such as food waste audits and surplus food distribution reduce waste and help reduce the gasses that emanate from food waste and lead to climate change. The chapter recommends rapid digitisation by tourism enterprises as a strategy to ensure food system sustainability.
