Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects over 500 million people worldwide, and its prevalence is rising rapidly, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. As one of the most common chronic conditions globally, diabetes poses significant health challenges and requires innovative solutions for effective management. Additive manufacturing, commonly known as 3D printing, has emerged as a transformative technology in the biomedical and pharmaceutical research sectors. This chapter aims to explore the advancements in diabetes tracking, treatment, and management through the use of additive manufacturing methods. The chapter begins by providing an overview of diabetes mellitus, discussing its pathophysiology, diagnostic methods, and current management strategies, including lifestyle changes, pharmacological interventions, and continuous monitoring to prevent complications. The focus then shifts to innovative drug delivery systems, such as 3D-printed microneedle patches for transdermal insulin delivery. These patches offer a pain-free alternative to traditional injections, enhancing patient compliance and enabling sustained insulin release. The creation of patient-specific drug dosages through additive manufacturing allows for personalized treatment plans based on individual needs. Additionally, this chapter highlights the development of 3D-printable advanced hybrid materials for diabetic wound healing. These novel materials accelerate the healing of slow-healing diabetic wounds by providing biocompatible, tailored solutions. The chapter also discusses continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems, which leverage biosensing technologies to track glucose levels in real-time. Additive manufacturing plays a crucial role in improving these systems by producing custom-designed accessories for better functionality and comfort. In conclusion, additive manufacturing is revolutionizing diabetes care by providing more personalized, efficient, and patient-friendly solutions for diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, and wound healing. This technology offers promising advancements in managing the global diabetes epidemic.
