Nick Bostrom’s Superintelligence, published in 2014, depicts many of the reasons we should be concerned about the development of AI. This critical book also examines why it will be so hard to contain the spread of this new technology. Although he at times posits possible methods to inject human values into the machine, his overall message is that any attempt to render artificial intelligence ethical will likely be circumvented by the creation of an autonomous mode of AI. In other words, a machine that can process huge amounts of information with increased speed will eventually learn how to program itself, and this development will hinder any ability of humans to control it.

摘要

Nick Bostrom’s Superintelligence, published in 2014, depicts many of the reasons we should be concerned about the development of AI. This critical book also examines why it will be so hard to contain the spread of this new technology. Although he at times posits possible methods to inject human values into the machine, his overall message is that any attempt to render artificial intelligence ethical will likely be circumvented by the creation of an autonomous mode of AI. In other words, a machine that can process huge amounts of information with increased speed will eventually learn how to program itself, and this development will hinder any ability of humans to control it.
