This chapter describes leisure as a social and human concept within the prison context. Research highlights that physical and psychological well-being, happiness, recognition of others, and companionship are values to be fostered through constructive time use during incarceration. Misconceptions often lead outsiders to assume that incarcerated individuals have abundant time for self-reflection or unlimited opportunities for activities such as studying, developing professional skills, working, attending workshops, or participating in socio-educational programs. However, time for recreation or rest—often enjoyed through voluntary sports, cultural, artistic, or social activities—differs from mandatory efforts aimed at accessing the labour market to cover expenses such as housing, childcare, food, or travel. Academic processes designed to improve educational levels for greater well-being and personal fulfilment, along with training programs linked to labour market skills, also play a crucial role. Within this framework, education and leisure are key tools for social reintegration, focusing on preventing recidivism and reducing returns to correctional facilities. Leisure activities, in particular, enable individuals to develop as competent and socially responsible citizens, capable of leading fulfilling lives both during and after incarceration. These efforts aim to promote resilience and ensure successful reintegration into society.

摘要
