Green Nanotechnology in Manufacturing Processes

To date, the greatest challenge is the foreseeable long-term impact both on human health and environment caused by nanostructures which cannot be observed even with the most sophisticated optical microscopes. Also, it is difficult to see the details of the interactions between nanostructures and the basic components of life. With the new generation of green nanotechnology arriving to reduce the resources pressures and enhance the relevant invested profits, along with the worldwide requirements of alleviating fossil fuel usage and CO2 emissions-energy conservation and emission reduction, the utmost rigor techniques are required to scientifically explore in an economic, efficient, energetic, environmentally friendly way. Moreover, the correlated mechanisms must be revealed in detail to sufficiently reduce the harmful effect on human health and environment. Ultimately, the green nanotechnologies are actually explored and realized so-called eco-friendly to human health and environment both. In the twenty-first century, according to the development of clean technologies, new crosscutting kinds of green nanotechnology (nano-techniques) should be investigated to minimize or solve potential human health and environmental risks/problems, and to encourage replacement of existing products with new nano-products. Therefore, aim to provide vital information about the growing field of green nanotechnology in manufacturing, the relevant techniques, such as chemical etching, sand blasting, shot peening/laser shock peening, physical vapor deposition (PVD), chemical vapor deposition (CVD), plasma spraying, ion implantation, high pressure torsion (HPT), equal channel angular pressing (ECAP)/equal channel angular extrusion (ECAE), cold rolling, hot rolling and wastes recycle for the friendly environment, are reviewed. Meanwhile, the future prospects for the significantly feasible green nano-techniques are also pointed out.
