The theoretical basis for the interpretation of rates of chemical reactions that was presented in Chap. 3 applies only to reactions in which a single compound is converted directly to one or more products by a unimolecular or bimolecular mechanism or to those reactions in which two compounds react together with a bimolecular mechanism to give directly products. In this chapter, we analyze some of the most representative complex reactions that take place through more than one elementary step.
