Assuming a critical paradigm based on Foucault’s conception of power, the chapter presents media literacy as a human right. The path towards achieving this goal includes joint processes of communication and meaning-making practices that contribute to commoning in its contemporary conceptualisation. This theoretical chapter critically analyses the importance of media literacy for a new conceptualisation of civic culture and participation in the context of socially constructed and highly mediated societies.
