Pakistan’s Green Future: Harnessing Hybrid Solar and Wind Energy for Sustainable Agriculture in Balochistan Plateau

As global energy demand escalates due to rapid urbanization and technological advancements, Pakistan, like many developing countries, faces a critical energy crisis exacerbated by its outdated infrastructure. This issue is particularly severe in the Balochistan Plateau, which suffers from an insufficient energy supply for its agricultural and industrial needs. “To address these challenges, this paper explores the potential of integrating solar and wind energy in the Balochistan Plateau, a region renowned for its significant solar irradiance and favorable wind conditions. Using advanced hybrid energy modeling tools such as HOMER Pro and RETScreen, along with data from NASA’s Prediction of Worldwide Energy Resources (POWER) database, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the Global Solar Atlas, and real-time measurements, this study evaluates the feasibility of solar and wind energy systems. Results indicate high solar irradiance levels ranging from 5.5 to 7.0 kWh/m2/day and wind speeds of 6–8 m/s, confirming the region’s suitability for renewable energy (RE) projects. The integration of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems with wind turbines could provide a stable and reliable energy supply, crucial for modernizing agriculture and reducing reliance on costly and polluting fossil fuels. This hybrid approach not only promises to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability but also supports broader environmental and economic goals. The findings underscore the importance of adopting renewable energy technologies in Balochistan to address energy needs, promote sustainable development, and boost local economies”.
