Mechanical Adaptability of the Skeleton
摘要
Bone is exquisitely sensitive to its mechanical environment. In Chap. 1 , we reviewed the history of Wolff’s law and the mechanical adaptability of bone. Here, we dig deeper into the theories regarding the mechanical adaptability of cortical and trabecular bone. The mechanisms by238 which this occurs from the biochemical to the organ level are overviewed through the description of various models that can explain mechanical adaptation.
