European Media Discourses of the Refugee “Crisis” and Human Rights
摘要
The refugee is trapped between these two positions: moral responsibility/solidarity versus threat/exclusion. How can we, therefore, transcend the resistances (often emotional) and heated tones vis-à-vis the phenomenon of migration? How can we overcome the stereotypes and prejudices faced by migrants and refugees? How can we promote a representation of the other and of alterity? There is a need for a communication strategy in which it is no longer ministries, associations or international organisations speaking to us about “migration and migrants”, but the migrant who speaks to us, who requests our attention and our gaze. What is lacking in most public communication is precisely their own self-representation: their voice, their story, their gaze on us and on the hosting society.
