Maintaining fruit quality is a critical goal for improving productivity and minimizing postharvest losses, which represents a significant challenge for the global agricultural sector. Fruits, being perishable commodities, encounter a range of issues from the moment they are harvested until they reach the consumer. These challenges include moisture loss, increased respiration rates, accelerated biochemical degradation, color changes, and vulnerability to diseases and pest infestations. Additionally, physical damage during handling and transportation further contributes to the deterioration of fruit quality. Such factors collectively result in substantial postharvest losses, which can negatively impact food availability, farmers’ income, and consumer satisfaction. Addressing these complex postharvest issues requires innovative approaches, and one promising solution is the application of nanotechnology. This chapter delves into the cutting-edge advancements in the use of nanotechnology, particularly focusing on the role of nanoparticles in fruit coatings to combat moisture loss, maintain color, and reduce disease incidence. Furthermore, nano compounds are being utilized to regulate ethylene production, which is crucial for delaying fruit ripening and senescence. Nanosensors also offer significant advantages by enabling real-time monitoring of fruit quality throughout the supply chain. This chapter provides an in-depth exploration of how these nanotechnological innovations can effectively enhance postharvest management and improve fruit storability.
