Nanoparticles for Crop Protection

Research in nanotechnology within agriculture has led to the development of various nanoparticles, offering potential for pest control and serving as an environmentally safe strategy for crop protection. Nanotechnology introduces innovative formulations that seamlessly integrate from sowing to consumer acceptance, extending benefits to post-harvest storage and enhancing food shelf life while preserving nutritional quality. Recent advancements in nanotechnology envision diverse roles in plant protection, real-time monitoring of infections and pest threats, and boosting crop yields, thereby fostering sustainable farming practices. The development of nanoparticles shows promise for pathologists in detecting and treating plant diseases through nano based kits, pest detection via nano sensors, and improving plants’ nutrient absorption. Monitoring environmental or physiological parameters crucial for agricultural productivity and crop protection is now feasible with nano based sensors. Compared to conventional methods, nano-agrochemical delivery systems such as nanospheres, nanocomposites, nano capsules, and micelles possess novel properties that increase efficiency, promote precise delivery of agrochemicals, and reduce residual pollution, crucial for crop protection. This delivery system enables targeted and controlled chemical delivery to essential sites, akin to nano drug delivery in humans. This article explores the array of nanomaterial applications in agriculture, particularly focusing on pest control, nanotechnology-based sensors, plant growth promotion, post-harvest management, and innovative formulations.
