Ultrasonic systems are widely used to monitor the performance and residual service life of power equipment. Ultrasonic inspection usually measures the parameters of the received pulse, such as the amplitude and the signal delay time in the object under inspection. When measuring the signal delay time, it is very important to accurately determine the pulse onset moments. With a signal-to-noise ratio of less than 10, determining the pulse start times becomes a difficult technical task. Automation of the distance determination procedure based on the analysis of measured samples of sent and received pulses is the main goal of this paper. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for automatically detecting the beginning of the sensed and received pulses to automate the process of analyzing the measured data. The LabVIEW graphical programming environment was used to implement and test the proposed algorithm.
