The chapter examines experimental studies of the use of urea to reduce the emission of sulfur dioxide with the flue gas of boiler units and the possibility of obtaining a commercial product—ammonium sulfate—at the output of the flue gas desulfurization process. The methods of urea decomposition with the formation of ammonia for the implementation of an effective process of desulfurization of flue gases were investigated. Based on these studies, a combined sulfur and nitrogen flue gas purification system for the WR25 medium power boiler was developed, which uses a single reagent—urea. This system will ensure the levels of SO2 and NOx concentrations in flue gas below the standards set by European environmental legislation for medium-capacity boilers.
