Cycling poses specific challenges to the genital and perineal regions, with conditions like saddle sores, perineal nodular induration, vulvar lymphedema, and scrotal dermatoses arising from prolonged pressure and mechanical trauma during rides. Infectious skin conditions, such as impetigo, folliculitis, tinea pedis, and onychomycosis, are common amongst cyclists due to sweat retention, occlusive gear, and repeated weakening of the skin’s protective barrier. Sun-related dermatoses, including sunburn, polymorphous light eruption, actinic keratosis, and melanoma, are significant risks for outdoor cyclists due to prolonged UV exposure during rides. Weather-related dermatoses, including windburn, cold urticaria, frostbite, and chilblains, frequently affect cyclists exposed to extreme environmental conditions, especially during long rides in cold or windy climates. Contact dermatitis, both allergic and irritant, is common in cyclists and is often triggered by prolonged contact with materials in cycling gear, including gloves, helmets, and shoes, as well as exposure to topical products or rubber chemicals.
