Keeping abreast of advances in dental materials is a challenge for even the most enthusiastic of clinicians. However, product development offers the dental team the opportunity to optimise their clinical skills and, hence, outcomes for patients in primary dental care. The present chapter discusses some fundamental and some specific points with the intention of helping busy practitioners to make the best use of dental materials in practice, although all the tips offered may be extended to the practice of restorative dentistry in general.
