Teaching in the online space is a unique and challenging experience but can also be incredibly rewarding. In this chapter, we dive into the various aspects of online teaching, from design to direct instruction and facilitation. We will provide theoretical models and practical advice for a beginner online educator, with a particular focus on how application of a Community of Inquiry model and the principles of Transformative Learning can enhance online teaching. We will highlight the multiplicity of roles included in the identity of an online teacher and suggest various ways to acquire skills and competencies to perform them effectively, thus providing the building blocks for educators to adapt as facilitators of online learning and cultivate an environment that ignites transformative growth and change in learners.
