Potentially malignant disorders in the mouth are commonly referred to as oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs). OPMDs are abnormalities in the mouth that are associated with a statistically increased risk of developing oral cancer. In the past, these lesions were referred to as ‘pre-malignant’ lesions, but this term is no longer used.
