Dental emergencies that require hospital admission are rare. However, there are occasions when the patient must go to the hospital Emergency Department (ED) either instead of going to the dentist or as a result of an untoward outcome while at the dentist. Those conditions where the patient should go directly to the hospital ED usually relate to a facial infection or trauma to the face. Those situations during dental surgery frequently relate to the individual’s medical conditions, resulting in bleeding problems or an altered immune system.
