Nutrition refers to the assimilation by living organisms of food and drink that enables them to grow, maintain themselves and reproduce. Nutrition also maintains the health and proper functioning of organs. Nutritional sources are broadly categorised into macro and micronutrients. Macronutrients, such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, fibres and water, provide the energy we need to function. Micronutrients, like vitamins (A, B, C, D, E and K) and minerals (Iron, Zinc, Calcium and other elements), are essential to the body in very small amounts. Still, their absence can have significant health implications, including oral health issues.
