Home Oral Care for Persons with Intellectual and Physical Disabilities
摘要
Intellectual disability (ID) is when an individual intellectually lacks conceptual, social, and practical functioning. It can be classified as mild, moderate, severe, or profound ID. It is classified based on intellectual functioning (such as the ability to problem solve, learn new skills, gain new knowledge), ability to interact with others socially (such as adequate social communication skills, being able to maintain good relationships, understanding and acting in a socially/culturally appropriate manner). The diagnosis is in the early developmental years. Individuals with ID can experience issues with cognition, mobility, self-care, getting along with others, participating in social activities, and maintaining relationships.
