Root canal (or endodontic) treatment is a very common procedure—over half of the world’s adult population is estimated to have at least one root-filled tooth. Treatment involves removing the inflamed or infected pulp (the ‘nerve’, a soft tissue inside the tooth) via a small access cavity made into the tooth, cleaning and then sealing the space with a filling material. Whilst no treatment has a 100% success rate, root canal treatment generally has a high probability of success when done to expected standards.
