This chapter examines the various provisions of binding and non-binding human rights instruments in relation to harmful practices. In addition, it discusses the various human rights that are affected by harmful practices. It further explores the clarifications provided through the works of treaty monitoring bodies. Where necessary relevant case law on this subject is discussed. Furthermore, the chapter discusses the obligations of states in relation to harmful practices. The chapter provides some suggestions on the steps and measures to be taken in order to address harmful practices.
