Preoperative assessment is essential for anaesthetic planning, deciding on the anaesthetic technique and risk management in cardiac children. An anaesthetic assessment for a cardiac child includes a clinical examination (heart sounds/murmurs, auscultation of lungs, pulse status, as well as signs (or the lack thereof) of heart failure, etc), as well as an assessment of investigations.
